Seeking family. Empty Seeking family.

Tuvon shifted his pack on his shoulder, and set his pole firmly onto the top of a mound of debris, swinging up to the top of it with inhuman ease to peer into the distance in the haze.

More ruins. No movement. Too badly damaged for much in the way of salvageable resources, however. This area had been hit hard by the bombs, reducing it to splinters and twisted, flattened wreckage. Still, further ahead he could see buildings looming like ghosts of a city as the dusty air shifted and swirled like mist. At least there they had hope of shelter, cover, more supplies. They would have to press on across this more barren expanse quickly. If he could see across, so could others.

Like mutant monsters.

The lab-mutant glanced back over a shoulder at Raena, and he huffed softly before hopping back down from his perch. She was his new companion, but a trustworthy one. They had gone through a couple battles together, and though some humans had helped patch her up after the last one, they had left because of ill-will towards them both among the colonists. Easy enough for humans to not like either of them--he was a mutant himself, and she a werewolf, both barely communicating with people and with instincts such found difficult to understand.

*Nothing until city ahead,* he signed with one hand. *Best cross quick and careful.*

Raena's eyes shone brightly, their luminescence the only obvious sign of her departure from the rest of humanity. She sniffed the air and shuddered. Something definitely seemed amiss. Spying Tuvon's furtive signal, she gave the slightest of nods. Quickly, she signed back *You lead. Me follow."

Tuvon crouched and slung his metal pole back onto his back, then led the way on all fours like a gorilla, surprisingly fast that way. He could maintain this odd loping stride for some time, with his conditioning in the labs. But he kept the pace measured for Raena's sake, as she had only recently recovered. As well, they had to keep to what cover was offered by the terrain--low boulders and chunks of debris, smashed cars and splintered dead trees. He didn't like it any more than she did, because it was so open and bare. Anything could hunt here, easily enough. Or ambush here.

There were stranger creatures than themselves, after all.

The mutant could only hope his own odd smell was enough to deter other mutants. It worked on some, but certainly not all. And if that failed, they would try to get away, or fight, whichever was called for by the situation. They had done so before. They would do so again, no doubt. But hopefully not so soon.

Realizing that they'd need to be faster and count on senses more acute than those she possessed in purely human form, Raena shifted to the wolf. Even then, she felt stiff and sore, yet she knew they didn't dare slow down. She stayed close behind Tuvon, trusting in his ability to lead and keep them safe, but determined to do her part as well. They were a team, after all. They were friends.

He was her only friend.

That realization alone was enough to keep her vigilant. She wasn't willing to lose her only friend, no matter what.
